As an independent energy service provider and energy efficiency company, we develop programs for many different types of clients to help them achieve the most value for every dollar they spend. The markets we focus on most include K-12 Schools, Higher Education, Government, Commercial and Healthcare.
The average K-12 building in the United States is 40 years old. According to the U.S. General Accounting Office, 14 million children, more than a quarter of American students, attend school in buildings considered below standard or dangerous and almost two-thirds of schools have building features such as air conditioning that need extensive repair or replacements.
Clearly students deserve better. Studies find again and again that the learning environment is closely linked to the performance of students and educators. But with ever diminishing budgets and decreased funding, schools find it difficult to come up with the money needed to make the necessary repairs. School districts present great opportunities for saving energy, which in turn allows us to help them put more dollars toward improving the learning environment and educating students. We have and continue to help school districts successfully meet this challenge.
In many colleges and universities, implementing sustainable ideas through energy efficiency and green technology has become a priority for both students and faculty. They face the challenge of tighter budgets and the need to provide students quality learning environments. High performance buildings allow students to excel and develop the skills needed to compete in today’s marketplace. Budgets have been stretched thin and escalating energy costs continue to hinder success. Deferring maintenance avoids immediate capital expenditures, but eventually results in building systems becoming inoperable and inefficient. Our team has developed and implemented improvements and strategies which eliminate unnecessary spending and reduce their environmental impact. Our partnerships with Colleges and Universities help modernize facilities and improve the learning environment.
Every day State and Local governments are required to do more with less. Budgets are difficult to balance and rising energy costs aren’t helping. This causes many to defer maintenance and capital expenditures only to be left with failing buildings and systems that become more difficult to occupy and expensive to operate. State and Local governments typically have a mixture of buildings that vary in age, function, and maintenance needs, making energy conservation efforts challenging and complex. Our team has worked with governments in rural areas as well as cities and counties in major metropolitan areas. We’ve addressed administrative and office buildings, water and wastewater treatment plants, lift stations, police and fire facilities, parks and recreation buildings, jails/correctional facilities, historical buildings, community centers, street and traffic lights, water meters, and many other buildings and systems. We help foster economic development, reduce costs, save taxpayer money and protect the environment with investments in infrastructure, efficiency and sustainability solutions.
Saving energy in commercial properties can enhance the value of a property by replacing old equipment, improving occupant comfort and reducing operating costs. Our team has experience working in office buildings, hotels, light manufacturing, industrial and warehouse facilities. The ability to fund energy projects with the energy savings created provides unique capital funding options. Our energy savings programs have been enhanced recently by the PACE program. PACE is an innovative way to finance energy efficiency and renewable energy upgrades in buildings. Property owners can receive financing for energy saving improvements that is repaid as a property tax assessment for up to 20 years.
Healthcare facilities, both public and private, present a variety of challenges and opportunities. It’s important for today’s healthcare leaders to have access to a variety of facility solutions that will enhance the profitability of their facilities. Under our care, we focus on minimal interruption and a value-based approach to capital investment. Most healthcare facilities have complicated systems, areas that do not allow downtime, and critical equipment that require redundancy. There are air quality concerns, infection control issues and critical care areas. We work with our clients to understand their challenges, and have experience providing successful solutions for hospitals, medical schools, and medical office buildings.
